When you run Speed Test, your browser exchanges test data with a Datum Cloud compute instance, which sees your IP address. Results stay in your browser.

Privacy and Speed Test

Speed Test measures your connection by downloading data from, and uploading data to, the Datum Cloud compute instance that served this page. Like any web server, that instance receives the IP address you connect from.

During the test the instance:

  • sends you random data, and receives and discards the data you upload;
  • reports your IP address back to this page, cut to /24 (IPv4) or /48 (IPv6) for display;
  • looks up which network (ASN) your address belongs to, in a copy of DB-IP's database kept on the instance, so your address isn't sent to anyone else;
  • keeps no log of your requests or results.

The results are computed in your browser by Cloudflare's open-source measurement engine and are not sent anywhere: not to Datum and not to Cloudflare.
